I have been collecting BarbieŽ since shortly after my daughter was born (1991). In the beginning I thought it would be a great thing for her as she grew up, because of course I have loved BarbieŽ since the first day I saw her! Then as the collection grew, and so did my daughter, I realize it has become more for me than anything else. She is not as interested as I am (hoping she will change her mind!). She loves to look at them occasionally but nothing like the time I could spend with them. :-) I started with a 1992 Happy Holiday's BarbieŽ Her dress just amazed me! Then in 1996, yes that long in between purchases, I saw my first collectable, Portrait in Taffeta! She sucked me in and I had to have her! By 1999 when I met my husband, Scott, I had all of 13 dolls. Not a very large collection by any means. He saw how much joy they give me and a collection was born. For birthday, Christmas, Valentines Day, and any other occasion I got more. He even convinced his and my family of what these girls do to me! I now have a wonderful collection of about 200 girls and guys. I also have our guest room that my husband and father-in-law helped me turn into my very own BarbieŽ dream house! Now I have added some others to the Barbie clan including some of Scott's grandmothers hand made dolls which, as you will see by the pictures, are better than anything you could buy in a store.
I am also a member of a really great Doll Club here in Plano. DOTS, Dolls of Texas Society, have been the greatest bunch of collectors I have had the chance to meet. They are fun to hang out with and chat with on email. |
